Those of you who voted for Trump in two weeks may find yourselves with a different president than you expected. Looking at the facts, Trump is 78 years old, obese, a stranger to exercise, eats like an unsupervised four year old and has had multiple attempts on his life recently.
So what happens if Vance becomes president by default. It was Maya Angelou who said, “When someone shows you who they are, believe them the first time.” JD Vance has shown us most everything we need to know in Hillbilly Elegy. Ron Howard has even made a movie about it. It’s all out there if you read or watch carefully.
JD Vance was largely raised by his grandmother who was a violent, crude woman Vance called Mamaw who believed in Hillbilly justice. Only one incident involves a chainsaw, to Mamaw’s credit. When Mamaw died, JD bragged that there were 19 loaded guns in her house. We don’t choose our relatives and certainly not everyone comes from a family with a stellar reputation dating back to the Pilgrims but we do distinguish between justice and revenge and we are not proud of violence in our immediate relatives. We do not brag about it.

JD’s Mom, Beverly raised by Mamaw seemed to have a penchant for cars. With her son in the car, she drove at a high rate of speed and told JD that she was going to kill him and herself. The police locked her up that time but numerous instances of domestic violence occurred between Beverly and her multiple husbands and boyfriends. Almost midway through the book, he speaks to her addiction. He even gave her clean urine at one point after having smoked weed himself. He felt really bad about it though, so there’s that.
Skip forward a few years and he is trying to tell women how to breed, not to divorce and my favorite – pawn your kids off on their grandparents if you are having trouble finding affordable daycare. He’s already admitted to having two of the worst role models caring for him. Does he think he is the only one with parents and grandparents who were less than prime examples of perfect parenting?
Parents, please do not leave your children with people who set their spouses afire. Its just a suggestion but you know how sensitive those child protective case workers can be.
I strongly suggest listening to the audio book because it is narrated by JD Vance, himself. Listen to him describe his life and life in the Appalachian mountains where according to Vance, ‘People are hard working except, of course, for the many Food Stamp recipients who show little interest in honest work’. Then decide if this man is who you want for president.
